My Current Skincare Products

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a big skincare girl – until recently. In the past, I’ve tried to maintain a skincare routine, but skincare has never been a priority and within a couple of days, I’d be lucky if I wiped a face wipe over my face before bed. Despite constant nagging from family members or beauty gurus online, I still carried on my ignorant way until a few months ago when I realised for myself that my laziness was doing my skin no good. I’ve realised that going to sleep in your make-up should never be an option, nor trying to apply make-up without moisturising first! I’ve never been one for having loads of spots, so when I noticed that my skin was getting pretty spot heavy, my pores looked pretty clogged, and the redness in my skin was raging now more than ever; I knew my skin was succumbing to the harmful battle I’d subjected it to over the past decade of wearing make-up. So, today, I give you a sneaky peak into what has converted me from a skincare irregular to a skincare (almost) obsessive!

My Current Skincare Products

CLEANSER // Nivea Daily Essentials Sensitive 3 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water, £3.69

EYE MAKE-UP REMOVER // Nivea Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Make-up Remover, £3.89

MOISTURISER // Olay Essentials Beauty Fluid,  £5.99

MOISTURISING MASK // Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask, £23.00

SPOT TREATMENT // The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Gel, £6.00

A skincare routine is nothing without a cleanser. In the past I’ve been all about the foaming cleansers (when I could be bothered), and I think my main bother with them was the fact I didn’t like the feeling off splashing my face with warm and then cold water, and then looking down and realising I’d soaked through half of my outfit. And so, in comes the Nivea Daily Essentials Sensitive 3 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water! With two cotton pads (one for each side of my face), I usually pour a little bit on each pad, and then wipe away. After use, my skin feels so much cleaner and fresher! Nivea claim that the product cleanses deeply, although the majority of the time I usually have to repeat this step as there is usually a bit of make-up residue left, but this could be due to my heavy foundation usage haha. I’ve had this product around a month now and I’ve almost finished it, and when I do hit the bottom, I’ll probably head to Boots and repurchase.

Next up is yet another Nivea product: the Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Make-up Remover for all skin types. I love how pretty the colours in the bottle look when the product is settled. What a pretty blue gradient. Anyhow, for ladies like myself who love waterproof mascara and lots of layers of Urban Decay eyeshadow, eye make-up remover is a must. This one claims to effectively remove waterproof eye make-up, and I can honestly say that it does this job perfectly. I’ve never been so amazed by an eye make-up remover! It feels cooling on the eye, and as long as you hold a cotton pad with a bit of product on it over you sockets (with your eyes closed might I add, you really do not want your eyes open whilst doing this…) for about 20-30 seconds, the make-up just slides off, leaving you with a slight panda eye look. At this point, I either give my face a splash of water or I’ll go back in with a bit of the Nivea cleansing water. Definitely recommended!

Moisturisers are so important in a skincare routine! Yes, even if you have oily skin, you should still be moisturising – you just need to find a moisturiser that is appropriate for your skin! My skin tends to drift between normal and combination at various points in the year. Right now, I’m using Olay Essentials Beauty Fluid – a moisturiser that I know a lot of beauty gurus and bloggers have raved about in the past… and I’m jumping on the bandwagon! It’s very light and keeps your skin nicely moisturised throughout the day. Worth a try if you’ve got a similar skin type to myself. However I’m not entirely in love with it, sometimes I do feel as though my skin feels quite tight after using it! What doesn’t work for me, may work for you; It’s all trial and error. All the same, it’s not an entirely bad moisturiser! After I’ve finished this bottle, I may just revert back to my Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser that I was kindly gifted with by my boyfriend’s mom for my birthday a week or so ago – I used to love that moisturiser a few years ago!

In the evening, a few nights a week, I usually put on this Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask instead of my regular moisturiser, and girl, I wake up feeling like a glowing goddess. Even if only for that day, I can see a dramatic reduction in the redness of my skin. I really must try more Origin products, ’cause I really love this one! Any recommendations?

Last but not least, a new addition to my routine, The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Gel, which is essentially just organic tea tree oil – perfect for tackling spots, and pretty speedy at it also. For £6, I’d recommend this product highly.

Hope this post has helped you if you’re in a bit of a skincare rut and not too sure what to try out next. I know that maintaining a skincare routine over the past few months has definitely improved the condition and appearance of my skin, so if you don’t already, get yourself down to Boots or Superdrug and gather yourself together a little kit like I’ve done for myself. It’s a lot of trial and ever but these a products that I’ve personally stuck with! Comment below if you have any recommendations you’d like to share with me (and everyone else!), or if this post has helped you in any way – I’d love to hear from you!

Have a happy Sunday 🙂

  1. Great post! I love tea tree oil and micellar water as well, and I’d love to try that Origins mask, it sounds so good! I don’t know if you’ve ever tried coconut oil but I’d recommend that as it’s brilliant stuff with loads of uses 🙂

    1. Thank you! 🙂 I’d definitely recommend the mask, even with the higher price tag! I actually have coconut oil in the cupboard at home, however I use it for cooking! What do you use it for?

    1. I haven’t, no! Maybe I’ll try that one next instead of repurchasing this one as Simple tends to be a tad cheaper than Nivea doesn’t it? 🙂 thanks for the recommendation!

  2. This post is fab! I’m just starting to dabble in ‘proper’ skincare for the exact same reasons and these products look at lot cheaper than the plunge that I took for some of my first ones! Thanks for sharing 🙂
